Why real money buys 0DTE
Big real-money asset managers buy 0DTE options.
That surprised me when I was on the desk. All that premium expiring in a few hours, and these are people with twenty-year horizons.
Then I heard the logic, and it's hard to argue with.
Most of the time they don't want a hedge on the book at all. They're nervous about one specific thing. A data print. A meeting. One number on one morning.
Paying for a month of protection to cover a single afternoon is expensive and imprecise. So they buy the option on the exact day that worries them and let it go.
Maximum leverage to that event. Minimum premium spent.
I saw an earlier version of the same instinct years ago. A client who only ever wanted weeklies. Shortest-dated thing that covered the risk he actually had.
That reframes 0DTE for me. The expiry is the point. It lets you buy the precise risk window you care about and pay for nothing else.
The casino reputation comes from how people use it. The instrument itself is neutral.
So when you buy a 0DTE option, can you name the risk you're covering?
Matching the structure to the risk you're actually carrying is most of the job. I walk through how I do it in my masterclass. It's free.
P.S. Choosing the right expiry for the risk you actually have is one of the first things we drill inside the Options Insight Advantage. Not signals. A process for deciding which structure fits the view.
