How I teach options

Quick note on how I teach options.

My focus is on the handful of parameters that actually move an option's price, and building a position that expresses your view on them.

Black-Scholes derivations, calculus proofs, quant-desk pricing theory. I stay away from all of that in the teaching. Real institutional trading runs on a handful of intuitive frameworks about how the surface behaves. That's what I teach.

The parameters that matter are the ones you can actually see and manage in real time. Where the vol sits and where it's likely to go. How skew is behaving. What fixed-strike vol tells you about dealer positioning. Where the potential gamma pins are. How term structure lines up around a catalyst.

These are the readings that shape every trade a professional puts on. They live in the vol surface. Learning to look at the volatility side of the option is what unlocks them.

Practical, intuitive, and actionable. That's the goal.

Practical because you can use the framework on your Monday morning trade.

Intuitive because the mental models make sense once you see them visually, no math background required.

Actionable because every read the framework produces points at a specific structure to express the view.

That's the whole approach behind the masterclass. Twenty years of desk work condensed into the framework a serious trader can actually use. Below.

The reason the textbook approach falls short is that it teaches the math without the market. You learn the formula for theta decay without seeing that Friday-Monday calendars are a retail trap because the market runs on business days NOT calendar days. You learn the definition of skew without understanding why a call-selling regime crushes vol on rallies. You learn vega without seeing how it actually behaves in a weighted fashion across expiries.

The framework I teach leads with the mental model. The math sits underneath, doing its job, without needing to be explicitly derived.

That's how professionals actually trade. It's how the framework works.
