The rally no one trusts

Hey there,

Imagine this...

A stock rallies 5% in a week.

You feel good. Chart looks clean. Momentum's there.

But what if the options market doesn't believe the move?

Most traders watch price against chart levels. Support. Resistance. Breakout.

Fine. But incomplete.

Price tells you what happened. Skew tells you what people are paying to protect against.

Price rising, skew flattening — calls getting relatively more expensive — that's flow chasing upside. Real money behind the move. Confirmation.

Price rising, skew steepening — puts getting bid while the stock sits at highs — the market is buying insurance against a move it doesn't trust. Disconfirmation.

One says "this is real."
The other says "this is fragile."

Look at $NVDA right now.

Stock rallying into earnings this week. Feels good if you're long. But put skew? At the highs. The options market paying up for downside protection while the stock prints green candles.

That's not what confident positioning looks like.

Skew isn't a perfect signal. I'm not saying sell everything. But skew tells you what sophisticated participants are doing with their money. Not their tweets. Their money.

Most retail traders miss this. They watch price and volume while the real story sits in the volatility surface.

When was the last time you saw a rally where skew was steepening — and you still held without hesitation?

If you can't answer that, you're ignoring something that matters.

Volatility first.
