One of my Delta framework setups

Live example from this week. XLI has pulled back, and the question is whether to lean bullish into the pullback or stay out.

Two things on the vol picture told me to lean bullish.

One. Vol isn't catching a bid as the sector sells off. On the chart, that's the red bars. When a sector rolls over and nobody's paying up for puts to chase it lower, the move is usually running out of sellers.

Two. Skew has gone nowhere. The pink line on the chart hasn't flipped aggressively toward puts the way it does before a genuine leg lower. The options market isn't pricing a real left tail here.

That gives me the bullish bias.

Once I have the bias, I sort the expression separately.

Do I have a strong view on where vol goes from here. How long do I think the rally needs to play out. How much decay am I willing to sit through. What's the risk/reward on the trade.

Those four questions choose the structure. The bias is already settled by the time I'm asking them.

This whole setup is one of the patterns I teach inside my Delta framework. Long-term uptrend, pulled back into support, vol metrics saying the pullback is getting exhausted. When those three line up, I've got a recognisable pattern I've traded plenty of times.

The vol signals I read on a chart like this are part of the delta framework. What the bars are telling you. What the skew line is telling you. And how to know when both are agreeing enough to lean into a bias.
